All is well (today)

All is well (today)
The family god is sitting in the corner
Eating the rice and watching the flowers
Light a joss-stick for his nose
Smokey smells that blend with the rose
And all is well today
The cuckoo clock announces it’s eleven
A moment ago was a quarter past seven
Time and the Cuckoo don’t ask why
Out the window together they fly
But all is well today
All is well, all is well, all is well
And all is well today
Once in a while you’re feeling pretty lonesome
Your hanky’s wet and you’re sitting on your ownsome
Even though you’re on your tod
Share some rice with the family god
And all is well today
All is well, all is well, all is well
And all is well today

Halfway wise

Halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s one is better than halfway dumb
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
Some people think they know what’s going on
Some people think they know what’s going on
They think they know what’s what but I think probably not
And whatever they think is right is probably wrong
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s one is better than halfway dumb
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
Some people think that wisdom comes with age
Some people think that wisdom comes with age
They think they’re wiser now than in their youth somehow
But a pair of specs
and a few grey hairs
and a wrinkly neck
and a big fat belly
and a double chin
and a hairy nose
don’t make you a sage
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise
A fool who knows he’s one is better than halfway dumb
A fool who knows he’s a fool is halfway wise

Cornerboy conversational
I was talking to my cornerboy, “Don’t look at me like that
Is there something unexpected poking underneath my hat?”
When his phone went ping he turned his face away
Then it was another day and I was feeding Colin’s cat
In the kitchen of a house forty fathoms from the ground
With a lot of window-boxes and a ladder hanging down
A cockaroach was sitting on the sofa by the door
Watching telly on his belly which was stripy black and brown
Have a think, make a drink, bake a little porky pie
That’s the way to behave if you’re trying not to cry
Finger up finger down signifying nothing much
Unless you’re Master Maitreya on a cloud floating by
Pity she, pity he, pity everybody
Since the milk stopped arriving no-one ever visits me
“What a shame”, we complain, “things’ll never be the same”
Still you mind your Ps and Qs, dot your Is and cross your Ts
It’s a strange situation it’s a sticky state of mind
Would you wander willy-nilly like the blind lead the blind
Feeling brave in the cave till your candle peters out
Where a babe was aborted and the bones left behind
Then he turned back to me, “Brother what was that you said?
I was chatting with my mum, she said Uncle Ted was dead”
But the moment had passed and I turned my face away
Then it was another day and I woke up in bed.

Trip/revelation
I’d like to take you on a trip somewhere
Do not be nervous – no need to be scared
You don’t need a ticket or a taxi fare
You won’t be sorry if you come with me
I’ll show you something you never did see
You’ll be very happy – that’s a guarantee
You don’t recognise me but you know my name
You are no angel but you’re not to blame
Soon it will be time for me to stake my claim
The fog is lifting you have little to lose
Undo your buttons and remove your shoes
You have no body so they are no use
Now do not try to go against the grain
Because resistance would be all in vain
What should be wonderful could end in pain
The curtain’s open you have nothing to hide
Forget tomorrow and enjoy the ride
Let the bliss of consciousness be your guide
I’d like to take you on a trip nowhere
Do not be nervous – no need to be scared
You don’t need a ticket or a taxi fare

Walk with me, do

Walk with me, do
I want to walk with you
In wild places
Where secrets dwell unasked
And unanswered
I want to walk with you
Only you, my love
Walk with me, do
Walk with me, do
I want to walk with you
On quiet pathways
Dappled with dancing sun
Barely a breath of breeze
I want to walk with you
Only you, my love
Walk with me, do
Walk with me, do
Once upon a time
In an ancient land
You seemed surprised
When I grabbed your hand
It was early spring
Everything was so fresh and so new
Walk with me, do
I want to walk with you
By a babbling stream
Mossy banks and precious flowers
Among forgotten stones
I want to walk with you
Walk with you, my love
Only with you
Walk with me, do
I want to walk with you
Under Shiva’s moon
Dressed in sweet memories
We’ve sewn together
I want to walk with you
Only you, my love
Walk with me, do
Walk with me, do
